A Parent of a Child on the Spectrum

We appreciated meeting with other parents, as we did not feel alone, with our troubles.

A Parent of an Autistic Adult

As parents, we felt so supported and validated when we took part in the Parents of Adults discussion. The struggles are real and networking to support families is so important. We are grateful for the expertise of guest speakers that come out to help parents navigate options for their child.

      Cycle for Autism Edmonton Participant

We had a lot of fun last year with Elliot's team Golden Hearts and we would love to do it again this year.

Mother of a child on the spectrum

I think Occasio Junior is a good fit for us because my child needs more exposure to peers and the opportunity to make friends. It’s also important to me that he learns independence and life skills. I know it will take him longer than a typical child to learn these things, so having the opportunity to be exposed to these types of situations over an extended period gives me much more hope for his future.

My son Thomas is new to the League and has been able to attend a handful of events. One thing that I think is really great is those who join can pick and choose their events and there is absolutely NO pressure to attend …it’s the last thing those on the spectrum need - they feel it enough in their everyday lives! One thing that has been a blessing for Thomas is through the League he has gotten his very first job!

The events and opportunities afforded to me by the Autism Society are great. As an example, I was unaware of a place in Edmonton that taught cooking and allowed you to eat the meals you created. I never thought I was looking for that, but it was a great experience, nonetheless.

I've tried many groups for support. The League is hands down the best. I've made friends and have gotten support and understanding of my disability. As well how to manage. I love the League.

The League is an inclusive environment where being my autistic self is no longer my worry. In a world where I constantly contrast my experiences of how I interact with how others expect me to interact, it's nice to enjoy a group of people, safe in the knowledge that I will be asked about it if anyone has a problem; it's a group where I only have to worry about enjoying myself.
